Walkden High School is a secondary school in Walkden, Greater Manchester, England. Formerly on Birch Road, the school is now located on Old Clough Lane, and serves Worsley, Linnyshaw, Roe Green, Ellenbrook and Boothstown. It specialises in languages and teaches French, Japanese, German, Spanish and Russian. In September 2011, the school moved into a brand new building off Old Clough Lane〔http://menmedia.co.uk/salfordadvertiser/news/education/open_days/s/1330055_walkden_high_school〕 as part of the Governments BSF (Building Schools for the Future) agenda; a process which started the early planning stages in November 2006. The culmination of that work is a building that offers accommodation for 1,500 pupils (compared to 1,200 at the Birch Road site) with a diversity of specialist learning spaces. Subjects are grouped in 5 Learning Zones. These include: * Global Zone (Modern Foreign Languages & Humanities). * Core Zone (Mathematics & English). * Discovery Zone (Science, Business Studies & ICT). * Expression Zone (P.E., Dance, Drama, Music & Media Studies). * Creative Zone (Design Technology & Visual Arts). The new building is available for the community to use out of school hours and this is managed by Salford Community Leisure. Pupils are placed within one of the 5 different houses which are linked to a particular Zone within the school. Each pupil will have a Form Tutor & Head of House. The following Houses & which Zones are linked to each house is shown below; * Global Zone is linked to Marco-Polo House. * Core Zone is linked to Turing House. * Discovery Zone is linked to Joule House. * Expression Zone is linked to Morrissey House. * Creative Zone is linked to Westwood House. In October 2013, Walkden High School was rated as a school which "Requires Improvement" from Ofsted.
